JOSEPH CROWLEY Obituary

CROWLEY--Joseph Dwight. Joseph Dwight Crowley, 91, of New Haven, died peacefully at home on October 15, 2025, surrounded by family. Joe was an intellectual, athlete, businessman and lover of literature and the arts. He graduated from Phillips Exeter, Yale, and Harvard Law. He led the New Haven Terminal, founded by his grandfather T.A.D. Jones, for six decades. A founder of Long Wharf Theatre and supporter of the New Haven Symphony, he adored Beethoven, opera and Louis Armstrong. He helped launch The Washington Monthly and was active in local, state and national Democratic politics. He married his wife, Phyllis Frierson, in 1958 and they had four sons. He loved long dinner talks, the New York Knicks and his family. He is survived by Phyllis; sons Joseph, Kenneth, Lyle, and Michael; and five grandchildren.
