JOSEPH FLEMMING

FLEMMING--Joseph Peter, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at 94. Born in New York on January 16, 1931, he attended Andover at 12, graduated from Harvard, served as a Marine Lieutenant in the Korean War and later earned his law degree from NYU. He built a distinguished career as an admiralty lawyer, co-founding Flemming, Zulack & Williamson, while devoting much of his time to pro bono and community work, including playing a major role in the creation of Brooklyn Bridge Park. A passionate writer and lifelong advocate for justice, he sent thousands of letters to the editor of The NY Times throughout his life, a number of them published. He was a devoted husband of 67 years to Camilla, who predeceased him in 2022. He is survived by children, David and Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Terry Karl, granddaughter Anne and "adopted" family members Jason, Linda, Alycia and Lana Cohen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACLU or Marc Elias Democracy Docket.
