The sadness I felt when Lisa, his daughter, called me hasn't left me.
They say we're fortunate to have one maybe two best friends in our lifetime. Well he goes to the head of the class! He was an unconditional friend who always had the time to listen and offer his most insightful advice only he could deliver.
I miss him more than I thought I would, words alone cannot describe the loss I feel knowing he won't meet me again.
Joe Santaniello and David ZItzkat Graduating from Bristol Central 1961

Joe died a few days ago. He was one of the best friends I ever had, although I didn't realize it at the time. This photo was taken at Muzzi Field in Bristol, Connecticut on the day of our graduation from High School in 1961. We were both on our way to college, Joe to Holy Cross (source of a major disagreement between him and mez - He was accepted by Yale but decided to go to Holy Cross) and I was on my way to Penn. I would see him summers for the next four years but then I went into the Navy and Joe went to Harvard Law. I saw him a little bit after that, but not much. We all went our separate ways. The last time I saw Joe, Steve R. and a bunch of us went to his apartment in New York on his birthday and surprised him. I don't know when that was, but it was more than 40 years ago. After that surprise birthday party, I never saw him again. I didn't know what happened to him until I read his obit. I moved to Boston after the Navy and then became an EX Pat Employee of Honeywell in Paris, then Law School then back to Connecticut. Got married, raised a family and still working as a lawyer at age 75. I was crushed to hear about Joe. There is so much I could say, and I think I am going to write a story about it. I can't tell you how emotional it is seeing this old photo. Both of us at the beginning, now Joe has finished. God Bless him.
