KATHLEEN DANIEL Obituary

DANIEL--Kathleen T., beloved aunt and textbook editor, died January 17, 2025. She was 89. Raised in Beach Haven, NJ, she graduated from Chestnut Hill College in 1956 and later moved to New York, where she lived the rest of her life. She attended the Radcliffe Publishing Course before beginning work as an assistant editor and later head of the English department in the textbook division of publisher Harcourt Brace. She was the quintessential New York City aunt. She leaves behind a vast number of lifelong friends whom she adored and who adored her.

I am one of Kathleen's many good and grateful friends. We met in 1970 when I began working as a copy editor at Harcourt Brace. Kathleen was a great editor and a great personality. I was drawn to her by the sound of laughter that often drifted out of her office and all the knowledge that she so generously shared with me over the years. Years later when I was a freelancer and she an executive editor, she gave me oodles of work and upstinting affirmation. In1980 we went to Peru together and met up in Ireland several times. Kathleen was marvelous company and a loyal steadfast friend. It was a joy and an honor to be her friend for 55 years.
