To Jordie- Eric and I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to you and your family on Larry´s passing. We go back to Ardsley Little League days and hockey practices and games at the then new Greenburgh rink. In particular was a scorching hot day at McDowell Park when I was umpiring a game in which one of your teammates stepped on the plate as he lined a ball into the outfield. I immediately raised my arms and called the batter out. Larry came racing down from the coaches box and starting screaming at me and telling me it was my job as the umpire to instruct the batter not to move his feet on the plate; he kicked dirt on the plate and on me and threw his cap. The call stood and your team lost. After the game ended he came to me and asked why I hadn´t tossed him. I told your father that I didn´t eject him because I knew that´s what he wanted and that if I had to finish umpiring the game in oppressive 95 degree with all of my equipment on then I had no intention of relieving Larry of the burden of finishing the game. I would regularly stop by to say hello between periods of Ranger games at MSG. Sadly I stopped going to games so I hadn´t seen Larry in many years. I hope you remember me and more importantly Eric who is now a sergeant in the Ardsley PD. Your father and shook hands after that little league game and as always shared a laugh about the call. I will always fondly remember Larry.

I am so grateful as a hockey and Ranger fan that Larry Brooks was the constant that I could read each day for all things with the Rangers and the NHL. Also, I recall asking him hockey questions a few times when you could email him and he always responded within a day or two. Thank you Larry, for all your great informative articles during the week and "Slap Shots" on Sunday.
You were the best and you will be missed.

He was the reason I read the Post .
They weren´t articles he was writing for us. He was telling us a story informing and entertaining-that was beauty of his style!
That NY wit and grit was a tone on the back pages that cannot be replicated again
Your loss is ours too!
