LAURA GOLDFLUSS Obituary

GOLDFLUSS--Laura. Laura Yarvin Goldfluss, age 96, died peacefully at her home in Florida on February 10, 2023. A radiant beauty with a sparkling personality, Laura was a proud daughter of Brooklyn, where she was born and raised. Her father, Meyer Yarvin, owned a clothing manufacturing company, and her beloved mother, Bessie Yarvin, worked as an accountant in the family business. After graduating from Samuel J. Tilden High School in January 1945, Laura earned a B.S. degree in business from New York University, where she concentrated in management and retailing with a focus on fashion merchandising. Throughout her life, she was fascinated by textiles, clothing design, and women's fashion, and she adored her early career as a buyer of women's apparel, initially for Stern Brothers and later for Franklin Stores. After raising her children, Laura returned to school to complete a Masters degree in education and worked in New York City public high schools for 26 years as a teacher of business mathematics and a career advisor. She helped many of her students secure internships and entry-level positions in the fashion industry. In 1949, Laura married Howard Goldfluss, a criminal defense attorney who went on to serve for more than twenty years as a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court and, after retiring from the bench, became a novelist and radio and television commentator. Their 58-year marriage was a wide-ranging adventure. Laura's greatest treasures were her two devoted daughters, Ellen Kaden and Lisa Goldfluss, who have been inspired every day by their mother's passionate love of life and by her strength, courage, and extraordinary determination. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren and step-grandchildren, David Kaden and his wife Talia, Rebecca Kaden and her husband Scott, Douglas Kaden and his wife Merritt, and John Kaden and his wife Rachel, and eight great-grand- children in whom she took enormous delight. We will all cherish the memory of this warm, vibrant, wonderful woman whose beautiful smile lit every room she entered and whose boundless love illuminated our lives.

I am truly saddened to learn of Mrs. Goldfluss's passing. She was my Business teacher at JFK back in 1980/1981. I not only loved her classes, I adored HER! She took personal interest in each of her students and helped guide me through a very difficult time in my life. I've told many, many people in my life that Mrs. Goldfluss is the reason why I am where I am today. I will forever be thankful to have had Mrs. Goldfluss in my life. She was the best. I will miss her forever. May she rest in peace.

With love and condolences,
Barbara (Capalbo) and Glen Yudman

I am terribly saddened to learn of Mrs. Goldfluss´ passing. She was the most amazing teacher I ever had. She truly cared for her students and reached out to me at a very difficult time in my senior year at JFK. I´ve told many people in my life that I would not be where I am if not for Mrs. Goldfluss. May she rest in peace. She will be sorely missed.
