Leonard was my idol, my best friend and soul mate for decades, although the Atlantic presented a considerable obstacle as we lived on each side of it. We met in Iceland when I was 18 and he 26, and after our ways parted we were able to see each other at least once a decade, either in Iceland or North America. I treasured his wit, his kindness, his broadmindedness and unique intelligence not to mention his wonderfull sense of humour. We also shared a deep love for music. In my book he was a genius. But above all he was immensely kind and fair. I feel as if a big part of me is lost with him gone.When he went to jail in Chicago, my mother gave him her favorite painting, that's how much we all loved him.

I worked for Len as an administrative assistant while I was in college in the late 90's. He was a brillant, caring, inspiring man and a remarkable human being. I still vividly remember his love of gardening and his excitment about ordering new seeds for his garden. He will truly be missed.

Len was my boyfriend in high school. I was always proud to be with him. He escorted me to my Junior prom.
I followed his career through the years and said hello to him one more time in Woodstock, NY. I was very honored to know him.

Sincere condolances to the Weinglass Family. I knew Len when we both served in the New Jersey Air National Guard at the old Newark Airport. He was a warm and sincere friend and a lawyer who hated injustice and always fought for the underdog. He will be greatly missed.

Many profess their love of justice and freedom. Few have fought for those ideals with the enduring passion and zeal of Leonard Weinglass. His life and work lightened the burden of many indivduals and all humankind. I am happy to be among them.

Len Weinglass travelled to Ireland three years ago to highlight the case of the Cuban 5. He spoke with such eloquence on the main Irish radio station and then went to the Irish Parliament to tell the members about the 5. He was a charming lovely man who gave everything he had to fight for justice for his fellow human being. We shall miss him.

The passing of Lenny Weinglass from the criminal defense community is like the Northern Lights forever leaving the night sky. A warrior has fallen and we are bereft. He was a giant among us and a magnificent human being.

Lorna Dee Cervantes posted these kind words on Facebook: "Sorry to hear of the death of Leonard Weinglass, a wonderful endearing man who was a member of my legal committee the many years I was an anti-nuclear activist. Once they singled me out of about 700 women & sent us to Sybil Brand in East LA. He visited me in prison. I was so touched & awestruck. When I think of the word 'mensch' I think of Leonard Weinglass. RIP, Len."

My condolences go to his friends and family. I met Lenny back in the spring of 1970, when I was a student at Illinois Wesleyan University and he spoke there following the Chicago 7 trial. He was totally approachable and down to earth, and obviously very passionate about his work. We need more like him. His voice on behalf of those unfairly accused and abused by the system will be missed by all who believe in justice.

My thoughts are with Mr. Weinglass's family. Had the opportunity to meet him once years ago. A remarkable human being. I wish more lawyers were like him. This is a loss.
