MARILYN ALTMAN Obituary

ALTMAN--Marilyn Guss, died October 17, 2023. Marilyn was, along with her late sister Elaine, and her older sister, Goldie, closely connected to Lower East Side history. She was the youngest daughter of Molly and the legendary Isadore Guss, of Guss' Pickles, a store that endured for at least six decades and reached national fame. Marilyn was the only daughter who didn't actually work at the shop (as the New York Times reported, per-haps because she'd once dropped her yo-yo in a pickle barrel). But she was proud of the pedigree. She spent her career initially as a teacher in the New York City public schools, and then in various roles in Jewish communal service including UJA Federation. She is survived by her spouse, Morty, her children, Stephanie (Andrew) and Matthew (Bonnie), and grandchildren, Coby and Lila Dominus, and Jake, Evan, and ZacharyAltman.
