MARILYN WHITE

WHITE--Marilyn J. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn J. White, mother, grandmother, and champion of services for those underserved seeking addiction counseling and treatment. Marilyn was a pioneer and icon who founded the Realization Center in 1984, with the dream of helping those affected by addiction in New York City. Marilyn, a credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, worked with thousands of addicts and hundreds of addiction clinicians, MDs, residents, interns, and social work workers throughout her 40+ years in the field. She devoted her time, passion, and in fact, most of her life to acting as both a champion and advocate for those struggling with addiction. Marilyn demonstrated dedication, poise, and compassion while providing care in an intense and often challenging work environment. She was a leader and role model for countless counselors she mentored throughout her career. Marilyn incorporated her own experience of 50 years from addiction to recovery in everything she did, and her priority was always for every addict in need of access to treatment. She and her long-time business partner, Dianne Schwartz, CPA, CASAC operated Realization Center with dedication, compassion, and commitment. Marilyn's vision and mission will continue under the continued presence of her business partner and her daughter, Shelly White, LCSW-R, CASAC 2. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Shelly White, who continues her work, her beloved grandson, Beyer, her business partner Dianne Schwartz and her longtime assistant Cynthia Simmons. A remembrance celebration and memorial service will be held at The Church of St. Francis Xavier, 46 W 16th St., New York, NY 10011 on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 9:30am.
