I sang with the Chautauqua Opera Chorus for 11 seasons, and heard Marjorie Gordon sing many roles, my favorite being Rosina in "The Barber of Seville". She was a true artist and a delightful lady to be around -- her laughter brightened the rehearsal halls.

Marjorie is a treasure to be always remembered. She was not only a superlative musician, she was a warm and loving soul. She brought Joy and Art to all our lives
As Director of the Piccolo Opera, She gave the singers with her group opportunities to sing in places that welcomed and celebrated opera, and to sing performances that were top flight as well as just plain fun.
We will miss her a lot.

I am so sorry to just learn of the death of dear Marjorie. She was my first voice teacher, when she lived in Detroit and I was a mere 16 years old. She was so incredibly kind and very instrumental in my attending U of M and earning my voice degree and even to my being able to continue singing now. I had the good fortune to reach out to her a few years ago, to tell her how much she had meant to me, and to inquire if she remembered me from those long ago days in Detroit. She was as gracious as ever, responding: of course I remember you, sweet Nancy, and recounted back to me her memories. I am so glad to have that correspondence. A very special lady in deed. Condolences to all the family who will miss her so acutely.

She was my teacher for many years, so sad to hear of her passing. She taught me everything on bel canto technique, I will miss her.

She came to visit us about a decade ago and blew me away. She was exactly what I want to be like when I reach that stage in life. I wish I had known her when she was young. I loved her spirit and energy and zest.

Losing Cousin Margie feels like losing another link in my immediate family. She and my mom and my Aunt Miriam were of a kind and a kind we don't really see anymore. The whole family has lost yet another of that key group of musicians from a generation that viewed the world just a bit differently and just a bit better than we've managed since.

To my dear voice teacher of many years ago - you will truly be missed. My thanks to you and your family for guiding me along my path of vocal music. I still continue to teach voice and piano here in my hometown of Petoskey, Mi. Sincerely, June Zoerhof

Florence and David Scheirer send our condolences to the family. Marge was such an unusual woman so very talented. We were fortunate that we were able to spend many evenings with her in Florida eating and laughing...she will be missed.
