Remembering Mark today, and many times during each year. I had a bit of his life in the 90's, and I will always be grateful for that time. What a dear man, and a good friend, if only for a few years.

Mark“s passing has left such an enormous void in the lives of all of us who were fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know him, I cannot even begin to imagine how the last five years have been for Rebecca and the children. We hope and pray that with the passage of time, the loss might become just a bit bearable. May God be with them.

Learning today of Mark's death and seeing his sweet face was very sad. My heart and my prayers go out to his dear family. I have great memories of serving with Mark at PIMCO back in the 1990's, and I think of him often with fondness. Yes, John 6:40 is a great comfort and hope for me as I think about Mark.

I was the chief engineer for Mark and Rebecca on board their yacht, the Perseus. Mark was one of the best yacht owners I worked for, very kind, very personable, and very interested in the engineering and technology of the vessel. It was fun working with Mark.
Rebecca, Sophie, Jacqueline, Matthew and Christopher were all wonderful people and insisted the entire crew join their family for a post-cruise celebration. Unusual and indicative of the entire family's character.
I resigned from the Perseus because as luck would have it I met my future wife, Stephanie, a few months before joining the vessel. Mark and I tried to get Steph on board but it didn't work out and I only did 1/2 of the Pacific Ocean. Mark complimented me by saying I gave him the best resignation letter he has every received, I was leaving for love.
Steph and I are married now and have a 3 year old daughter.
I think of you often and miss you Mark. A blessing of a presence on this planet.

So shocked and saddened to learn of Mark's passing, he was such a warm, generous and witty man with such a zest for life. He was a great help to me by employing me to be his chauffeur when he lived in London in the early 2000's. I have fond memories of Sophie and Jaqueline.. God bless you Rebecca and family.

With sadness, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former BIOS Trustee, Mr. Mark Byrne.
Mr. Byrne first became involved in the then Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) in the late 1990's. He was elected a member of the corporation in the summer of 1999, became a trustee in November of 1999 and served until 2004. He was an active proponent and supporter of the new millennial laboratory building project which is now known as the Michael Naess Building at BIOS and the home to a large portion of BIOS's working labs.
The staff and board of BIOS extend its sincerest condolences to Mr. Byrne's family.

I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I knew Mark well at Dartmouth. As the thoughts below attest, he was a man of boundless energy, extremely smart, intellectually curious, full of passion, deeply loyal and always with a trademark laugh and smile. I am sure his family would understand that it was hard to keep pace with Mark in College and he did not like it when one fell behind, whether on a trip to the ski house in Vermont or an all-night drive (his car - it was a beater) to see the Grateful Dead in New Haven. He loved that music. I tried to contact Mark in Bermuda the last several years, but was not successful. I regret not having been able to do so. My thoughts are with Mark's family. I am sorry you have to endure this pain.

I am deeply saddened by the news and my inner most sympathy goes out to the extended Byrne Family.
He was definitely a charismatic man. Known and remembered for is boundless energy, charitable endeavours, his enquiring mind and an unquenchable thirst for deeper knowledge to name a few of his characteristics. Along with other people I know, he gave us a platform from which we too could learn and grow.
He will be missed. Godspeed on your next journey Mark.
