Mark Zatzkis

ZATZKIS--Mark, M.D. Died peacefully at Saint John's Hospital on October 24th from brain cancer, he was 53. Mark graduated Harvard College in 1975 with an A.B. in chemistry. He attended Columbia Medical School in New York City. He completed his internship and residency at U.C.L.A., followed by a cardiology fellowship at U.C.S.F. He went on to complete a year learning how to perform angioplasties at The San Francisco Heart Institute at Seton Medical Center. He had been a practicing cardiologist in Santa Monica, CA, for the past 20 years. Mark was loved by all who knew him. He was a unique man. He was warm, compassionate, and sweet. He was intelligent yet modest; sensitive and downto-earth. He loved people, and he had a way of making everyone around him comfortable. He loved conversing with his many friends and patients, and he was admired by many. Mark had a great sense of humor and a wonderful zest for life! He loved his work and his patients! Mark loved reading, running, following the stock market, and anything having to do with numbers. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and kids. He loved practicing cardiology. Most of all, he loved the New York Yankees! Mark is survived by his wife, Melissa, who adored and treasured him. He leaves behind his three children: Elliot, Hayley, and Greg, whom he loved so very, very much! He is also survived by his loving mother, Natalie. Mark also had a wonderful father, Henry, and a very special brother, David, both who predeceased him. He also leaves behind his loving caretaker, Dawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neuro-Oncology Department at U.C.L.A., Attention: Timothy Cloughesy, M.D. Funeral Services will be held at Hillside Mortuary in Culver City, this Sunday, October 28th, at 11:00am.
