MARSHALL WEINGARDEN Obituary

WEINGARDEN-- Marshall L. Avid reader of the New York Times who loved the Obituaries section - especially days with centenarians. Born 1930 in Brooklyn; raised there and in Queens, Marsh remembered when milkmen used horses, bagels were cement donuts and the Dodgers played the 1941 World Series. He studied engineering, graduated from University of Michigan where he hosted one of the first toga parties, and celebrated the 1951 Rose Bowl victory the month of his graduation. In New York he began his long and fruitful career as a packaging designer, salesman and inventor with multiple patents on packages for educational publishers. His Columbia University master's thesis on consolidating air cargo into containers helped revolutionize this industry. Marshall was a car enthusiast and owned one of the first stateside Aston Martin DB2/4s. He enjoyed international travel and yet could find all pay- phones in Manhattan. A friend often said, "There are eight million stories in New York and Marshall has all of them." He lived more than 93 years, spending 30 of his adult years in Manhattan, 30 years in Haworth, NJ and the last ten years in Easton, MD - enjoying time with family and friends. Despite various health challenges, he had a long, happy life. Devoted husband to Barbara (Burns); wonderful father to Alison; fun granddad to Marco. Affectionate father-in-law to Paolo and brother-in-law to Cindy. Loving son to Esther and Harry; steadfast brother to Ann, who predeceased him. Donations to JDRF or Mount Sinai Hospital are appreciated.
