MAURICE KELLEY Obituary

KELLEY--Maurice L.

on January 27, of Needham, MA. Died peacefully at age 88 after a lengthy illness. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie Fitzgerald, brother John B. Kelley of Philadelphia, daughter Maureen Forester (Chris) of New Canaan, CT, and children Kristin, Liza, Pete, Matt, Mike, Sean and Dan; and son John F. Kelley (Joan) of Needham and children Christina, Patrick and Tommy. Born in 1929 in Bryn Mawr, PA, Maury served in the US Navy, becoming a Lieutenant (JG) aboard the USS Valcour during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Marie, in 1953. He graduated with honors from Temple Univ (1952), earned his MBA from Xavier Univ (1957) and attended Harvard AMP. Maury began a long and distinguished career in marketing at Procter & Gamble in 1954; he held subsequent positions as VP of Marketing for Eastern Airlines, Continental Airlines and SmithKline Beecham. During his career, Maury helped pioneer the use of consumer brand marketing practices to other industries and was recognized by numerous associations for his achievements. Upon retirement, Maury devoted time to his favorite pursuits: travel, golf, and spoiling his wife and grandchildren. He and Marie lived in Brewster, Ipswich, and Needham, MA, and enjoyed annual retreats to Ireland. Maury was a positive person, a quiet yet impressive presence; he touched everyone with his kind words and genuine interest in their lives and passions. An extraordinary husband to Marie, and an inspiring father, grandfather, friend and colleague, he will be truly missed. Visiting hours February 3, 5-7pm, Robert J Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St, West Roxbury, MA. Funeral Mass February 4th, 9am St. Susanna Parish, 262 Needham St, Dedham, MA. Donations in Maury's memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA. Complete obituary and guestbook at: lawlerfuneralhome.com

My sympathy to his family. My mother, his Aunt Jean, always spoke fondly of Maury. Wish I had been able to meet him and his family but our move to SC in the 50's cut short the opportunity for us to get together with relatives in the Philadelphia area as the years went by. Know that he will be missed.

He was my uncle and the best one a niece could have. I loved him and admired him so much. All of the family was very proud of his business success and his love for my aunt and his wife, Marie, and his two children, Maureen and John, and of course, all of his grandchildren! Even with his very busy life, he was always involved with me and my sister and my mom (his sister-in-law, Jane Fitzgerald).

Maury Kelley was one of the finest people I ever had the good fortune to work with. He was sharp and had his eye on what would build the business, but he did so with rare kindness and consideration. I will miss him. My condolences to his wife and family.
