I knew Mike from the American College of Trial Lawyers. Many years ago at a meeting of the Social Justice Committee of that organization I suggested that they ACTL get involved in representing Guantanamo detainees. This was not a popular cause politically and for many of S&C's clients. Nevertheless, Mike was one of more than 30 of the leading lawyers in this country who subsequently volunteered. He persevered in his representation over 8-9 years and was a tireless advocate. When we met at meetings, he would talk about this undertaking as if it were the most important legal representation of his career. His devotion to a noble cause in support of the rule of law was unstinting. He was truly a virtuous man worthy of sadmiration.
