MICHAEL CRIMMINS Obituary
CRIMMINS--Monsignor Michael Custis. Monsignor Michael Custis Crimmins died peacefully on February 28, 2025, at his home in Garden Grove, California. Born on January 28, 1942, in Menlo Park, California, to Martin Lalor Crimmins II and Mary Bradley Averill Crimmins, Monsignor Crimmins led a remarkable life serving God, his many parish communities, many friends and his extended family. His compassion and kindness touched countless lives through his ministry. After attending Saint Joseph's Elementary School and then Encinal School, both in Menlo Park, California, he then attended Bellarmine College Preparatory School nearby. Following graduation he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1965 and, a brief career in sales at NBC, received a master's degree in divinity from Saint Joseph's Seminary. Following his ordination in 1970, he spent the summer months at Catholic University of Ponce, in Puerto Rico, before heading to Manhattan where he served as Assistant Pastor at Blessed Sacrament from 1970-1974, the Church of Saint Joseph from 1974-1975, and Saint Patrick's Cathedral from 1975-1977. He was the Associate Pastor at Transfiguration from 1977-1979 and then Notre Dame where he served as Administrator in 1981. In 1988 he became the Coordinator of the University Apostolate and Campus Ministry until 1997. Appointed as Pastor of Saint Malachy's in Manhattan in 1997, he also then served as a CUNY board member. Monsignor Crimmins was named Prelate of Honor to His Holiness in 1999 the Director for the Propagation of the Faith in 2002. He served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Clare's in Staten Island in 2005, Pastor at Saint Gregory the Great in Manhattan from 2006-2015, and Parochial Vicar at Holy Name of JesusSaint Gregory from 2015 until his retirement in 2017. In every parish he served, he was respected and loved by all those he served. Monsignor Crimmins was predeceased by his brothers Martin Lalor Crimmins III, Nathan Averill Crimmins and John D. Crimmins, and his sister Mollie Crimmins. He is survived by his nephews Patrick Bellinger Crimmins of Walnut Creek, CA, Martin Lalor Crimmins IV of Boston, Thomas Lynch Crimmins of New York City and his niece Margaret Crimmins Kuhns of Los Angeles. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who were blessed to know him. A memorial Mass celebrating the life of Monsignor Crimmins will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 152 W. 71st St., New York, NY, at 10am, on May 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Catholic Relief Services or The Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
