MICHAEL PRICE Obituary

PRICE--Michael F. With great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved husband, father and friend Michael Price. The world has lost a curious mind and a generous heart. Born in 1951, Michael grew up on Long Island and attended Roslyn High School. An avid athlete and football player he headed west to the University of Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. In 1973, he joined Heine Securities in New York where he began his career as a research assistant to Max Heine. Over time the two men together managed three funds including the original Mutual Shares Fund, focusing on undervalued stocks and investing in bankrupt companies. At 34 years of age, Michael took over the leadership of the firm and following Max's death in 1988, purchased Heine Securities and rebranded the fund family as the Mutual Series Funds. Under Michael's leadership, the firm grew to more than $17 billion under management. In 1996 he sold Mutual Series to Franklin Resources, thereafter focusing his time on his own office, MFP Investors, his philanthropic efforts and his family. As a legendary stock picker, Michael was tenacious in his pursuit of misunderstood and overlooked investment cases. He was inquisitive, insightful and demanding but had a charm that earned him respect from colleagues and adversaries alike. What was lesser known was that Michael applied these same characteristics in the development of others, giving a unique opportunity to a myriad of young graduates who might not have had the type of credentials Wall Street was typically seeking. The word "mentor" has been stated by so many. Behind the tough exterior was a man that gave the same type of opportunities he had been given so many years earlier. He always stayed loyal to his Oklahoma Sooners and in 1997 with much pride gave a gift of $18 million to establish the Michael F. Price School of Business. He continued with more support to his beloved alma mater in the years to follow and was proud to have his three sons attend there as well. Additionally, Michael was a generous supporter of Boston College and served as a Trustee at Johns Hopkins. Always fascinated by medicine, Michael made every effort to be supportive and help in innovation. In 2001 Michael joined the Board of the Einstein School of Medicine and established the Michael F. Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine. Additionally, in 2017 with much gratitude The Price Family Center for Comprehensive Chest Care was created at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. On a smaller scale but just as impactful, Michael constantly gave to individuals in need who crossed his path, hoping to create opportunities otherwise unattainable. Big or small he gave open- heartedly and with boundless generosity. Michael is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jenny, their children Charlie, Grace and Teddy and older children Jordan, Andrew (wife Kerri) and Jonathan (wife Laura), and ten grandchildren. A celebration of Michael's life will take place at a later date this spring. If interested in making a charitable donation in his memory, please direct to The Price Family Center at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital or Healthy Steps at Montefiore. His passion on the polo field, golf course and trading desk are memorable but his love of family and friends is what made him so special. We will miss you dearly.

I had the opportunity to work with Michael at a young age he gave me the opportunity to be apart of his company and that was enough to teach me that in life you make the best of an opportunity given and you learn from your mistakes and continue to challenge yourself I send my condolences to Michael family Thank you Michael.

I was very young. Names and words sometimes I didn't get quite right. I always loved and will have fond memories and never forget how my family and I always celebrated when we watched "Bomberry-Moe".

My sincerest condolences to the Price family for your tremendous loss. I went to work for Heine Securities in 1988, shortly after the death of Max Heine. Michael was a larger than life personality and will always remain in my memory as a kind and generous man. Thank you Michael, for giving me a chance all those years ago. Rest In Peace.

RIP, Michael Price. Along with Max Heine, my first boss, and my best teacher - one I have always and often remembered and thought warmly of. Thank you. Life goes much too quickly.

As the former Saratoga Polo Club announcer for 25 years, I have fond memories of Michael and his team, Franklin Templeton, playing there in the 1990's.

I can still remember seeing his plane approach the polo field and land at the nearby small airport. After the post-match presentations, he would chat with the fans and head back to New Jersey.

He was a true sportsman and a fine gentleman. May he rest in peace.

I am very sorry for your lose. I first met Michael at Heine Securities at, I think 26 Broadway. I believe it was Max, Michael and Kelly Michael´s. I was 16 or so making Michael about 22. I was with my dad and he was meeting about his account at the time. Since as a family we followed Michael to Short Hills and back to NYC again. It´s been a looong time, but oh my it´s gone by quickly. He was a great guy who had a great life and did many great things. Michael will be dearly missed. See you on the polo fields in heaven.

At his retirement party from Mutual Shares...Max Gerber did a caricature for me...for Michael..
The Inscription read; The Price Is Right...as it was said and as it was written, it was true.
Mike always tried to do the Right Thing...in all his lives, and simply put, only because it was the Right thing to do...Good Bye friend ...Rest in Peace...you will be remembered forever and missed.
