1951 - 2021

KOTKIN--Minna J. Brooklyn Law School community deeply mourns the loss of Professor Minna J. Kotkin, a beloved teacher and highly esteemed member of the faculty since 1984. She was director of the Federal Litigation Clinic and the Employment Law Clinic, mentoring and inspiring generations of law students. A strong advocate for the rights of the disempowered, Professor Kotkin wrote and lectured extensively, and testified before legislative bodies, on issues of employment discrimination, with a particular emphasis on sexual harassment and confidentiality. In 2020, she launched the Pandemic Employment Relief Clinic, which rallied hundreds of law students to help New York workers displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was honored with the NYS Bar Association President's Pro Bono Service Award. A pioneer and leader in the clinical legal education community, Professor Kotkin served at various times as the chair of the Association of American Law Schools Litigation and Clinical Legal Education sections, on the steering committee of the AALS Equal Justice Project, on the editorial board of the Clinical Law Review, and on the boards of the Global Alliance for Justice Education, Disability Advocates, the Eastern District of New York Litigation Fund, MFY Legal Services, and Manhattan Legal Services.
