NANCY GARVEY Obituary

GARVEY--Nancy A. Ph.D. With deep sadness, the trustees and administration of Barnard College mourn the passing of Nancy A. Garvey, Ph.D. '71. A dedicated alumna, Nancy joined the Board of Trustees in 2008 and began serving as chair of the Budget and Finance committee in 2013. Her Barnard undergrad years sparked her interest in economics and she earned an economics doctorate at Columbia University in 1980. She went on to have an impressive career at General Motors and AlliedSignal (now Honeywell), attaining high-level executive positions during a time when few women were elevated to such roles. In 2018, she received the Barnard Trailblazer Award and in June 2022, the College named a prominent campus corridor "Nancy A. Garvey '71 Walk" and established a science endowment fund in her honor at a dedication ceremony attended by her children--Katie and Zach. Barnard honors the memory of this extraordinary woman and extends its deepest sympathies to her family, loved ones, and friends, and all whose lives she touched. Still miss Garvey: her warmth, affection, and sometimes cynical humor.

Nancy was a dear friend from the first day of college at Goucher College. Garvey will always be close to my heart.
