NATHAN WALDMAN Obituary

WALDMAN--Nathan J., Esq.,

passed away peacefully in his Manhattan home Wednesday morning, June 6. He is survived by his two sons, Scott Waldman, a computer science Public School teacher in Queens, NY and Dr. Jonathan Waldman of Albany, NY. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nina Kurtis Waldman. Born in Munkacs, Czechoslovakia, he arrived in New York Harbor on the last boat from Trieste on the eve of WWII. Much of his family was lost in the Holocaust. He came to our shores without a word of English and ultimately was able to put himself through City College and later, Columbia Law School. It was the heyday of Ed Koch, William Kunstler and the like. He provided legal services to many clients of varied degrees of notoriety and fame; the likes of Lady Day, Vetas Gerulaitis and the Incredible Hulk. But what he became most involved with was The International Typeface Corporation; at a time when typefaces were licensed to early computer platforms and before they were copied by MS from Apple and Adobe. He is most remembered for his love of tennis, his Yiddish wisdom and tremendous capacity to tell many fabulous stories and jokes. The funeral and the days of mourning will be in Woodstock, NY. The funeral will be at Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker street, Woodstock on Friday, June 8th at 10am.

Nat was a good friend. He and I worked closely together at ITC for about 15 years and he was my Best Man at Cynthia and my wedding at the end of 2001. We would see Nat and Nina quite often for events in Manhattan and at our respective homes. Occasionally we met up in places as far flung as Seattle, Tokyo and London.

Every time I saw him, Nat would always start by telling a joke. Not necessarily a new joke. And once he had finished I would put up a number of fingers to let him know how often it had been.

He was funny, positive, and hard working and I knew from the moment we met in 1986 that we would always get on well.

Cynthia and I have many very fond memories and we will miss him. Our heartfelt sympathy to Jonathan and Scott.
