PATRICIA GOLDSTEIN Obituary

GOLDSTEIN--Patricia Kleeman. Patricia Goldstein, extraordinary and beloved, passed away on October 30, 2025. She was 91 years old. Daughter of Karl and Amy (Ehrmann) Kleeman, Pat "Patsy" was born in Louisville, KY and grew up in Nashville, TN. Pat graduated from Wellesley College in 1955 with a BA in Art History and remained in Boston to obtain a graduate degree in occupational therapy, with a focus on the use of artistic expression as an intervention for mental illness. Soon after, she made her way to Manhattan. It was there, while working at New York State Psychiatric Institute and studying painting under her accomplished cousin, Edward Melcarth, that Pat met the great love of her life, attorney Richard N. Goldstein. Pat and Dick were married for 40 years until his death in 2005. During most of that time they lived in Rye, NY, where they enjoyed deep and lasting friendships and the special community of Kirby Lane North. A devoted wife and mother, Pat poured her creative energy into the visual arts. She maintained her own studio and produced a vast amount of original work that she showed in galleries locally and in New York City. She found camaraderie among other nearby artists and helped promote their work in her role as a volunteer at the gallery in Rye's public library. Throughout moves to Spencertown, NY, and eventually to West Haven, CT, Pat's commitment to her art remained steadfast. Her work shifted from abstract silkscreens to oil stick paintings that were often of vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Her brilliant mastery of color and shape endured. Always, Pat reflected on the world around her, and she did so with an eye that was both unique and inclusive. Although Pat's quest for excellence was lifelong, she downplayed her many other talents, including jewelry making, pottery, papercraft, and gourmet cooking. She was a woman of stunning self-reliance and a stalwart cheerleader for others. Her children will forever feel showered by her love and in awe of her example. Pat was predeceased by her brother Hilmar and sister Ernestyne. She is survived by her son Paul, daughter-in-law Julie, daughter Karen, son-in-law Kevin, and the four grandchildren she treasured: Lila, Justin, Olivia, and Lincoln. Adoring nieces and nephews also mourn her loss. For her entire family, Pat was a shining star. A memorial gathering will be held in the future.

Dear Karen, Paul and family,
I
am overcome by this beautiful obituary- so much about the amazing Pat that I didn't know. What a marvel- there are tears rolling down my cheeks. Words cannot express the joy and deep good fortune I feel to have been neighbors with all of you - and be in the stupendous light that was and will always remain in our hearts and lives - your Mom, Grandma, and Mother-in-law.
With gratitude,
Diane (Chira)

So very sorry to hear of your mother's death. I am Betsy Conovitz and my mother was Anne Kleeman Sites. I read her obituary in the NYT. Although I did not know Pat, I do remember visiting her one time when my mother came to see me in NY when I was living there. It's a shame that our family is so unconnected. All my condolences as your mother must have been quite a force and I regret not knowing her.

Paul, Karen, your Mom was a great lady. Always fun to be around. We have one of her avocado paintings in our foyer in Montclair. Our best to you all.
