Trix Smalley was my best friend's aunt. My friend's mother and father (Trix's brother Terry Tolles) passed away, and Trix was like a second mother to my friend and her sister. She was always very kind to me and my children. Upon learning I would soon be having my third son, I casually mentioned to Trix that I really wanted to find an out-of-date copy of a humorous book, long ago written by a member of her family. It was called "Too Many Boys" by Martha Tolles. Soon after the birth of my son Teddy, a package arrived. In it was a copy of the old, frayed, red book, and adorable outfits for my son monogrammed with the letter T. The note said "Even a third boy deserves new clothes." It was one of the most touching gifts I had ever received. Ellen Sammon-Harblin

Trix Smalley has been a wonderful friend for more than 40 years and her death robs us of her love, energy, generosity, intellectual stimulation and energy, her curiosity and interest in so many areas of life. She was the most life affirming person and the sadness at losing her will always be with us. Her wonderful family remain as special friends and a link to so many happy times and lovely memories all together.
