PETER COFIELD Obituary

COFIELD--Peter. Sunday Productions mourns the sudden and untimely loss of our friend and colleague. His extraordinary musical talent gave life to many television ads for companies such as Pepsi Cola, General Electric and Gillette. He leaves a legacy of music beyond his brilliant professional work in the songs he wrote in celebration of family and friends. Peter was exuberant and optimistic with a sense of humor that delighted all who knew him. We treasure his friendship and his music - and we shall miss him enormously. We send our love and sympathy to Peter's wife, Marianne, and his children, Rachel, Lauren and Dylan. A wake will be held Monday, January 3 from 3-9pm at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home in Whippany, NJ. The Funeral will take place on Tuesday, January 4 at 11am at St. Joseph's Church, Mendham, NJ. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Hilary Lipsitz President Sunday Productions

Thinking of him today for no particular reason. It was my great good fortune to work with Peter and his wonderful parter Hillary Lipsitz from '87 to '94 doing commercials for Delta Air Lines at BBDO Atlanta. Peter was a singular talent and had a powerful personality. I think anyone who worked with him, grew quickly to love him and admire his ability. He will always hold a prominent place in my memory and in the minds of those who were blessed to have shared in his life and work.

Mike was a dear friend in high school. We were science lab partners. He was full of life and fun. A great musician, even then, he would perform for school dances. I have a photo of him from our senior prom. Please accept my belated heartfelt condolences. I just learned of your loss through a classmate.

I also just found out about Peter's passing. How did I know him? Why am I writing this 5 years later? I was the host of the MJ Morning Show based in Tampa for 18 years and when the "Somebody up there loves you DirecTV" jingle came out, I thought it was brilliant. We contacted Peter and had him on the show where he told us about his other classics. We asked him to produce a custom jingle for our morning show and HE DID!!! Fast forward now to 2016 and I am doing "Len Berman and Todd Schnitt in the Morning" program on 710 WOR in New York City. I thought it would be great to revive the bit and get a Len and Todd jingle. When I seached online for Peter, that's when I found out about his death. What a talent. He was great on our show and did it for free! Seemed like he had fun. Here is a link to the jingle: http://www.mjfanpage.com/images/01mjmsjingle.mp3

Thanks Peter and R.I.P.

I am saddened and stunned to just find out about Peter's passing. I was telling a friend about his music last week which I found in recent years. His song "A Dream" is a true image of what should be. We went to the same college (TSC) but graduated a few years apart. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends.

It's now 2014,and I just found out about Peter's passing. I am so sorry. He was a great guy. I met Peter (Michael) in Cedar Knolls Grammar School in the 1950's. We were always friends. In fact, I went to see him play in NYC in the 70's and he was fantastic!! After that I lost touch with him. Rest in Peace and play your music for the angels Michael...

To Peter's family and friends,
Peter wrote the music for many of the commercials I produced at BBDO. We all know how brilliant and creative his music is. What made him unique was his kind, generous spirit and hilarious sense of humor. I will never forget the few days we spent on a business trip to Amsterdam. Sharing his great heart and joy in life made it memorable.

I went to high school with Mike at Hanover Park. I haven't seen him since the early 70's but recently connected with him on Classmates. We ran cross country together and I'll always remember his smiling face. My condolences to his family and many friends.

A generous man with music and laughter in his soul. When he played a couple of notes on a piano, you justed wanted to sing. Sail on, Skip.
