PETER SOM

SOM--Peter, MD. The Mount Sinai Alumni Association and the extended Mount Sinai family are most saddened to note the passing of our beloved friend, colleague, and teacher, Peter Som, MD, on Monday, September 19, 2022. Dr. Som was Director of Head and Neck Radiology, and Professor of Radiology and Otolaryngology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and The Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Som was a giant and transformative leader in the field of head and neck imaging and was a founding member, and later, President of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology. His influence as a caring and devoted teacher shaped the careers of a generation of physicians and surgeons. As befitting a scholar and clinician of international renown, Dr. Som received many awards, including Mount Sinai's highest recognition, The Abraham Jacobi Medallion, in 2006. While lessened by his passing, we have been elevated by having him as a member of our world since he arrived at Mount Sinai in 1967 for residency training. May his memory be a blessing.
