Raymond Aron Obituary

ARON--Raymond J. "Ray", 84, of Bovina, NY passed away February 28, 2009, at home. The son of Michael and Sadie (Mindlin) Aron, he was born May 29, 1924, in Orange, NJ, receiving his education at Newark Art School, Newark College of Engineering and Pratt Institute, graduating post-war, 1948. A World War II US Army Air Corps veteran, he piloted B-17s, flying thirty-three missions, including three 1500 plane assaults on Berlin from England, returning on his 21st birthday as the war ended. He retired as Captain, U.S. Army Air Force Reserve. A graphic designer/visual communicator, Ray's post-war work included the Propaganda Department of the U.S. Department of State; publishing (House Beautiful magazine); packaging design and medical advertising; and work with many great advertising talents including Vic Tresoff, Will Burton, Herb Lubalin, Gene Federico, George Lois, and others. He co-founded Aron & Falcone in 1958 in New Jersey, of which Summit Communications agency was an offshoot. Achieving international recognition for design, packaging and visual communications with Bill Falcone over a twenty year period, he was an original founder and active board member of the N.J. Art Directors Club, and its scholarship programs. He retired in 1995 after free-lancing and a brief teaching career at Kean, Montclair, Fairleigh Dickinson Colleges and DuCret School of Art. Formerly of Maplewood, NJ, Ray moved to Bovina permanently in 1995. Surviving are his former wife of 33 years, Ria (Meyer) Aron; brothers Joel and Jon Aron; first wife, Ann (Bonk) Boslet and their children, Ramsey (Dale) Single, Jay (Heather) Aron, Judy (Tony) Sellaro; grandchildren, Raymond Sellaro and Hana Aron; and other relatives, including the Arons, Mindlins, Socolofs and Smiths. Contributions to Catskill Area Hospice in Delhi, NY will be appreciated.
