Dear Evie, Emilie, Fran and Sarah,

I am thinking of all of you and your families. I know that Dick was beloved by all of you. Sad to know that he has passed on.

My deepest sympathy to Evelyn, Fran, Sarah Jane, Emily, and their families, and Andy's family. Although I did not know Richard well, I feel as though I did, through the warm way that Fran always spoke of him, and of his wise and humorous advice on practicing law and living life. Love, Martha

So many years ago Dick Cohen shared his kindness and expertise with Evelyn's friend, Phyllis Friedman, and me. Before I went to law school and Phyllis became a TV stylist we were roommates, two Philadelphia innocents loving New York's bright lights. However, alas, the financial responsibility that accompanied those lights was new to us. So each tax season, on one evening, we would be sitting on the floor, surrounded by papers and at wit's end. And Dick would come by, laugh and shake his head, and in an hour have us fileworthy for our governments. Phyllis and I were always grateful to Dick - and we laughed about those "tax evenings" for so many years until she was gone. Of course this description is just a small part of who Dick Cohen was - and who Evelyn is. Throughout the years it was lovely to share joys with them, to try to be there in sadness - and to always admire and respect them as parents, as professionals, as neighbors, as friends. Dick's lifetime was shared with so many others who feel - and know - as I do how much he will be missed. When I was in law school I could always ask him questions. When he and Evey had their children he would send us to the spot on the street where we could wave to Evey at her hospital window. When I went to Israel they sent me off to Evey's family - still close friends. And through the years talking with Dick about legal issues mattered so much because of his judgment - and this even though I am a lawyer for children and he this smashing tax attorney!!! Spending any time with Dick and Evey always mattered. My deepest condolences to Evey, to their children, their sons' and daughter-in law and their grandchildren. Dick is a lot of person to be missed!!!

Words alone cannot express my sorrow on Richard's passing. He was a charming and sweet man who loved music and liked to sing, sometimes we even sang together. Dick also had a sharp sense of humor in a quiet way, and always made me laugh with his quick wit, completely unexpectedly. Beginning in 2008, when Dick and Evie came to south Florida for the winter, I had the pleasure to work for them until the summer of 2011. I was so sad when they decided to go back to NY permanently to be near their family. I had the hope that I would someday see him again when I could visit there, even knowing full well of Dick's advanced illness. My heart goes out to the entire family and his dear friends, and especially to Evelyn who was a wonderful wife and care-giver and I could see how much they loved one another. May the memory of Richard G. Cohen be for a blessing...rest in peace, Dick...I'll always remember you.
