RICHARD GREENBERG Obituary

GREENBERG--Richard, We are deeply saddened to announce Richard's passing, after a battle with cancer. A light has truly gone out in our lives. He was the devoted son of Leon and Shirley (deceased), loving brother of Edward, cherished brother-in-law of Janet Kain, and adored uncle to Jonathan and Shana, great-uncle to Charlie and Will. He leaves behind many dear friends and theater colleagues who recognized his brilliance early on in his career and applauded his many successes and Tony awards. His humor was unparalleled, his compassion was deep and his love for his friends and their children was sincere. May his memory be a blessing. Burial will be private. Commemorative event will be announced in the Fall.

Rich's literary accomplishments are well known. At college he also acted in plays by Noel Coward, Tennessee Williams, and Shakespeare. He had a fine singing voice as well. He was kind and amiable and will be missed.

So very sad and sorry to hear about Richard. I remember him fondly all through my childhood to high school years in East Meadow. He was always in the drama club. God Bless him always. Fondly Remembered Joan Addams (Jacob)

I am so very sorry to hear about Rich. I worked for Rich´s first literary agent, Helen Merrill, whose office was located in the same building where Rich lived. Rich´s frequent visits were the highlight of Helen´s and my workdays. I was lucky to attend the opening night of Rich´s play, Eastern Standard, and go with Helen that same evening to the NYT loading dock on 43rd St. to buy the paper and read Frank Rich´s glowing review of Rich´s play.

I am so sad to hear about Rich´s passing. We were colleagues at Yale and he never ceased to keep me entertained and challenged. The world has lost a true champion of drama.
