RICHARD HAMILTON Obituary

HAMILTON--Richard Henderson, MD. February 16th, 1923 - July 6th, 2019. Dr. Richard Hamilton 96, Ham or Bito to his friends, died at home with family around him. Sent to New York Medical College whilst in the Army, Ham had a long and distinguished career as a radiologist, both in private practice and at NYU and the Rusk Institute. Ham will be remembered as an insatiable polymath whose charm, joie de vivre and sense of humor and justice informed all his relationships. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jean Seidl Hamilton, his children, Elizabeth (Martin Ferenczi) and Minard (Jane), dear friend, Linn Carl, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Gordon. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gordon deLima Hamilton Memorial Scholarship at the National Outdoor Leadership School. Be always kind and true.

Dr. Hamilton, was my father's lifelong friend. Bito, was bigger than life. Dad would regale us with stories of how Bito, could walk 50 blocks under NYC, without ever having to go to street level.
I met Dr. Hamilton in 1978, when I moved to Manhattan. Mom and Dad took me over to the Hamilton's house. I recall seeing the CAT scan machine in the basement. Impressive.
The last time I saw Dr's Hamilton and Seidl, was in Boston at Mass General Hospital, they came to visit my Dad, and valiantly tried to get Dad to have a CAT scan done, to see what was going on. My brother and I were grateful that he tried to convince him. He didn't do it, but recovered despite this decision. My Dad, Edwin Gordy, M.D., died November 20, 2013. My family was grateful for Dr. Hamilton's love and friendship towards Dad.

RICHARD HAMILTON WAS A FRIEND,GENTLEMAN,KIND,CONSIDERATE,WHO HAD A SENCE OF HUMOR,THAT ALWAYS LEFT YOU WITH A SMILE.
WHEN I LOOK OUT OF MY WINDOW,I CAN SEE HIS NAMEPLATE ON A PARK BENCH ACROSS THE STREET.WHICH MAKES ME HAPPY,AS HE IS ALWAYS NEARBY.WE WILL MISS HIM.REST IN PEACE
