RICHIE BERLIN Obituary

BERLIN--Richie E.,

March 4, 1941 - September 6, 2016, suddenly, doing what she loved, Richie left this world at the gym. An athlete to the end, a true warrior. A loving and caring family member and friend, Richie will be remembered for her warmth and sense of humor, her true "never say die" spirit, her generosity and her loyalty to all those special to her. Born to a former Hearst Corporation president, and growing up in Manhattan, life took her in many directions. An avid cyclist, Richie rode in over 12 AIDS rides from San Francisco to Los Angeles. She ran 135 marathons with the same determination and fortitude she used to face life's many challenges. Richie loved her AA community, her dogs, her many summers in the Hamptons, the bi-coastal years between L.A. and New York, and listening to Broadway show tunes while jogging through Central Park. Predeceased by her parents Richard E. and Honey Berlin and her sister Christina Pahk, Richie leaves her loving partner of 25 years Patricia A. Spado, sister Brigid and brother Richard Jr. A service celebrating Richie's life will be held on Monday, September 12th at 11:30am at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue, New York. Interment private.

A New York original, a brilliant mind for the wry side of life. One of the all time dog lovers and constant presence in Central Park and on Madison Ave . I will never see stripes again without thinking of Richie. Farewell and peace - the end of an era.
