Robert Diemar Obituary

1942 - 2021
Robert E Diemar Jr. died peacefully on December 13, 2021 surrounded by his family from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Bob was born on July 7, 1942 in Covington, KY to Eloise and Robert Diemar. He attended Highlands High School followed by a post graduate year at Philips Andover Academy. He graduated from Princeton University in 1965 and then earned a MBA from The Tuck School of Business in 1967. He served in the Coast Guard Reserve from 1967 to 1973.

Bob had a successful 50-year career in investment banking, which he began at Dillion Reed and Co in 1967. In 1973 he accepted an invitation to join Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette, helping build it into the global powerhouse it became. He focused on financing private businesses. Integrity was the cornerstone of Bob's professional career. It was clear to anyone who worked with him that doing things the right way was of the utmost importance to Bob. Bob retired from Credit Suisse as a Managing Director in 2002. Not ready to retire for good, he founded Coady Diemar Partners where he was actively engaged in the firm's business until his final retirement in 2019.

While his professional career was an important part of his life and one that he cherished, his family was his true life and passion. He married Eleanor Southworth Griggs on September 12, 1970. Together they had five children and eleven grandchildren. There wasn't an event in any of their lives at which he was not in attendance. He could be found on the side lines of every sporting event.

Stewardship was especially important to Bob as is clear from the long list of organizations that he supported throughout his life, including the Henry Street Settlement House, Trinity Saint Johns Church, St Philips Academy, St. Barnabus Church, Lawrence Country Day School, Far Hills Country Day School, Cardigan Mountain School, Duke University, St Lukes Episcopal Church and The Diocese of New Jersey.

Bob is survived by Eleanor, his wife of fifty one years, his five children Robert (Heidi), Jack (Jody), Thomas (Lauren), Caroline (Jason) and Charlie (Abby), eleven grandchildren Hayley, Courtney, Emery, Charlotte, Jack, Griggs, Thomas, Alexander, Charlie, Andrew and Natalie and his sister Cynthia Robson Lamarche (Morgan).

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Girls on the Run Northern Virginia - https://gotrnova.org - in Bob's memory.

I just found out this sad news. I met Bob several times while fund raising for our alternative energy fund. He was very attentive, extremely supportive and very helpful even if we didn´t end up working together. He was very admired, our deepest condolescences.

Bob and I shared a long history....Cincinnati, Princeton, and Dartmouth...and we remained long distance friends over the years. You could always count on Bob. Great career, but what he was most proud of was his family. Will miss our talks.

Eleanor and family - John Hassan just told me about this sad news - so sorry. Bob and I had so many fun times together, as you know. He was always so thoughtful and gracious with his friends, which I admired so much. My deepest condolences. Jay
