Among his many interests Mac loved the arts, notably opera. He loved creating elaborate meals to share with his friends and sampling all that NYC had to offer. The songs of Edith Piaf appealed to him - especially "Non, je ne regrette rien," whose spirit of resilience spoke deeply to Mac. At his home in Fire Island Pines, he was always the life of the party and was active in the community.

Rest in peace, Robert. I hope you found companionship, comfort and satisfaction from your life in Mexico. You were so full of life and fun. I hope that lasted until the very end.

Robert H. McDowall, M.D., died on September 15, 2025, at his home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He was 69. Known to friends as Mac (and also as Bob), he was a physician board-certified in both anesthesiology and pediatrics.
Born in Akron, Ohio, he earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1982. He went on to complete a residency in pediatrics (1982-1985) at Babies Hospital of New York, followed by a residency in anesthesiology (1985-1988) at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University.
He then joined the faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he was highly regarded for his work as a pediatric anesthesiologist. Later, Mac built a second career as a digital content creator and web designer.
He was admired for his dedication to patients and colleagues alike, and cherished by his many friends for his quick wit, compassion, and warmth. He loved opera, creating elaborate meals to share with friends, and the songs of Edith Piaf - especially *"Non, je ne regrette rien,"* whose spirit of resilience and defiance spoke deeply to him. He also treasured his years at his home in Fire Island Pines.
He is survived by his father, Robert H. McDowall Sr.; his brother, David McDowall; his nephew, Nikko; and his many dear friends. A devoted dog lover, he will also be remembered for his gentle care toward animals.
In lieu of flowers, friends invite memorial donations to SAGE, an organization dedicated to dignity and community for older adults; to the ASPCA; or to the SPCA San Miguel de Allende where he adopted his beloved dogs.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rose Hill Funeral Home & Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44333.
