ROBERT PINCUSWITTEN Obituary
Gagosian Gallery mourns the death of Robert Pincus-Witten - cherished colleague, scholar, and friend. During his time at the gallery, from 1990 to 1996, Robert drew upon his extensive background as both a critic and art historian in the organization of major exhibitions including Yves Klein: Sponge Reliefs (1989); Frank Stella: Black and Metallic Paintings: 1959-1964 (1990); Brice Marden: Grove Group (1991); Barnett Newman: Zim Zum II (1992); and two seminal Cy Twombly shows: An Untitled Painting (1994) and Blooming, A Scattering of Blossoms and other Things (2007). We extend our heartfelt condolences to Leon Hecht, his beloved husband, and to the many others inspired by Robert's intelligence, wit, and discerning eye. Through his contributions to the numerous publications produced both during and after his tenure at the gallery, Robert's critical voice and invaluable insight will live on for generations to come.
