ROBERT SILMAN Obituary
The Tortorella Family -- Joe, Andrea, Geena and Alyssa -- mourns the passing of their dear friend Robert Silman. Joe is president at Silman, the structural engineering firm founded by Bob, where they were business partners for many years. Bob taught us all, over the past 39 years, to lead meaningful lives in the engineering profession and in support of social causes. We witnessed Bob's kindness, thoughtfulness and elegant disposition - he carried himself with grace. He leaves a void in our lives that will never be replaced. We strive now to carry on his spirit and legacy the way he would have wanted us to. "Mostly it is loss which teaches us about the worth of things." (Arthur Schopenhauer).

Bob Silman was one of my favorite patients.he was always pleasant and congenial despite the severity of his medical problems.He was a humble man who never bragged about his incredible engineering feats.He was also a Renaissance man who was conversant about many subjects.The world is a lesser place without Bob but he has given us a legacy of buildings and ideas which last forever.

Bob Silman saved my life. It's a long story but thanks to his phone call urging me to go to the Mayo Clinic to deal with my rare blood disease, I would not be alive. I will forever be grateful.
