RODNEY NICHOLS Obituary

NICHOLS--Rodney Wayson,

80, on August 30, 2018, in New York City, from complications related to lymphoma. He was the son of Clarence Williamson Nichols and Theda Clark Nichols and was raised largely in Arlington, Virginia. A Harvard graduate (class of 1958) and physicist, Nichols was President and CEO of the New York Academy of Sciences, Scholar in Residence at the Carnegie Corporation, and Vice President and Executive Vice President of the Rockefeller University. Earlier he was a research and development manager in the aerospace industry and served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He is survived by his wife, Karen Landau, and step-daughter, Lily Landau, of New York, NY; son, Christopher McKnight Nichols, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sheehan, of Corvallis, OR; brother, George Nichols, and brother-in-law, Bill Bonecutter, of New York, NY and Wingdale, NY. Service private, and a public memorial at Rockefeller University will be announced at a later date. Contributions may be sent to benefit Rockefeller University's general fund, which supports its mission of pioneering scientific and medical research.
