ROSLYN KRAMER Obituary

KRAMER--Roslyn, was born in Brooklyn on November 26, 1933. She passed away at home in her beloved Greenwich Village on July 6, 2020. She is survived by her brother, Sam, his wife, Linda, her nephew Nicholas, and her twin grandnieces, Adeline and Rose. Roz was a journalist, a reporter who cared deeply about social issues and served as a researcher for Walter Cronkite. She loved and was extremely knowledgeable about movies and went to theater whenever possible. Her many friends and acquaintances were drawn to her vivacious, engaging personality - her magical ability to charm those with whom she had occasion to interact.

Roz wrote some very good articles for us when I was the editor of The Vilager. She came to us through her friend Doris Diether, the legendary Greenwich Village activist. She had a very positive, upbeat spirit and was very committed. She was a fighter for what was right.

Sam and Linda, Rozzie will always have a meaningful place in my heart. I hope that sometime soon the three of us can get together
for dinner --- uptown or downtown. I came back from 2 weeks in
France yesterday and am kind of jet lagged. Please propose a date
that will suit you. I am happy to come uptown to you.

I was shocked when Roz’s brother Sam phoned me about her death.
Sam, (very recently -- sadly deceased), his wife Linda and I had had dinner with her
several months earlier at Morandi, the Italian restaurant in her building at 15 Charles Street (where
I once lived). After Roz’s passing, I I accompanied Sam, Linda their son Nicholas and Roz’s
housekeeper to the Upper Westside funeral home. Everything was more difficult
because of the pandemic. Rozzy was one of the first friends I made in early 1966 when I returned from living in Geneva, Switzerland. I think of her and I smile because we laughed
at so many things together — in addition to more serious conversations about
government (and politics.

Roz, (as she was always known to me and many) was a great wit, a good friend and a talented writer. Although I had lost contact with her over the years, I remember her kindly. Rest well, Roz.

I have not seen Roz in many many years
But she was so memorable, so full of life. So full of optimism and joy. She cared so deeply about any number of issues and causes. She was a kind and generous person and I will never forget her

Ros was a very special person. I have not seen her in many, many years. But I will always remember her generosity, her sense of life and the joy she took in life every single day, her optimism , her commitment to causes she cared deeply about. I will always, always remember her. And I feel a deep sense of loss.

Growing up, I would see Ros on New Year's Day at the Tunicks. Years later, we would have lunch or dinner on occasion. I will miss her.

Roz was my neighbor for many years. I moved to the other side of the village and would bump into her while walking where we would have wonderful conversations. A true villager, a character with a good heart.
