To the family and friends of Rubin Wagner: Even though I did not know Mr. Wagner I was profoundly moved by his obituary. Although the world has lost a "mensch" may you find comfort in the knowledge that Ruby's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who never knew him as well as those near and dear to him. If only we could all have had a Ruby Wagner in our lives.

My sincere condolences are extended to the Wagner family. I did not know Mr. Wagner, but I happened upon the wonderful photo of him in the Times this morning -- in a section I do not normally read --and was captivated by his face, as well as the most beautiful and heartfelt tribute written about his life and family. Having had to write two family obituaries myself already, I just wanted let the author of this piece know what a beautiful experience it was for me, and I am sure many others as well, to be able to experience, through your writing, the true humanity of Mr. Wagner. I am sure the family is sad at his passing, but what a wonderful life he, and his wife, lived. I have to believe, in fact I feel certain, that this loving tribute captured Mr. Rubin Wagner whole, for when an obituary can move one almost to tears and then suddenly bring a hearty joyful laugh ("any food that starts with the letter 'a' ... ") you know that the essence of this most singular man was captured. Thank you so much for that. It made my day, maybe my week, and I only wish I could have met him in person.
