RUTH STRAUSS Obituary

STRAUSS--Ruth. Our beloved Ruth Strauss died Wednesday, June 26, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She worked at The New York Times for over 30 years, where she was a treasured pillar on the Culture Desk and beyond, working for six storied editors from Sy Peck to Sam Sifton. She was famously the voice of the desk, answering the phone with her signature "Cul-chah" in her New York accent. Ruth was a true renaissance woman, the Carrie Bradshaw before there was a Carrie Bradshaw. Her love of travel, all things Italian, opera and the arts were her true passions. She will be remembered as a treasured sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend and colleague, and her memory will live on in our hearts and in so many of our homes through her exquisite handmade pottery. Donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

To the Family of Ruth Strauss,
My heartfelt sympathy on your loss. I knew Stacey here in California and communicated with Ruth over the years. I always loved sending her flowers on her birthday, August 24th. I was getting ready to order some flowers for her today and when I looked up her address, I learned of her passing. I am so deeply sorry for all of you. Peace. Jody
