FLORMAN--Samuel C. February 3, 2024, at age 99. Engineer, builder, writer. Loving husband of Judith Hadas Florman, brother of the late Jeanne Lewisohn, father of David (Cynthia) and Jonathan (Lissa), five grand-daughters, and two great-grandsons. Native Upper West Sider. He was a committed alumnus of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School (Board of Trustees Chair) and Dartmouth College and its Thayer School of Engineering (Board of Overseers). WWII Navy Ensign in the Seabees. After serving in the Pacific he studied literature at Columbia and embarked on his interwoven careers as writer and construction contractor. Co-founder Kreisler Borg Florman Construction Co. His publications included The Existential Pleasures of Engineering and more than 300 articles on technology and general culture. A Renaissance man. Elected to Nat'l Academy of Engineering as an author. Family came first, but he also loved the New York baseball Giants, football Giants, poker with friends, Verdi, Broadway, John Le Carre, Patrick O'Brian, and Bob and Ray.
