I never knew Sam but knew of him....He served with my Dad as an Infantry soldier in the Pacific during WW II..Like so many WW II Vets, Dad rarely talked about the War other than to say that his friends like Sam was "a good fella".....I once found a letter in my Dad's scrapbook that Sam wrote after the War expressing his thanks and deep affection for my Dad....All I remember is that Sam was getting ready to enter his Freshman year at Harvard ....Years later my Dad was happy and wrote a letter of Congratulations to Sam's brother Endicott upon his election as Governor of Massachusetts...I have nothing but fondness and respect for Sam Peabody, for his service with my Dad in the Pacific and for the subsequent life he lead.....Jerry Linnen, Boiling Springs, Pa.

Sam was my alltime favorite teacher (St. Bernard's). He was kind, compassionate and was a true gentleman. Despite our 25 year age difference, he beat me regulary in squash. Losing to him never bothered me. I was planning to send him my novel to read but procrastinated far too long. Belated condolenses to his family.

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had Mr. Peabody as my Principal in the Lower School at RCDS. His patrician demeanor set an example for me and gave me a foundation that has served me throughout my life. I was able to tell him this at a reunion reception a few years ago and he was genuinely happy to hear it. I am grateful for his life and hope that he rests in peace.

Sam was simply the greatest friend and man one could have and know. I will miss him and his beautiful, spiritual, gift from God, wife, Judy, as long as I shall live. Rest In Peace, Samuel P. Peabody. You did all you could for as many as you could. Thank you, Tony Rose

Condolences to the family ...
'Mister Peabody' was my lower school principal at Rye Country Day school, and remember nothing but respect & admiration for him. He spoke to us the same, regardless if we were 2nd grade, middle school, or an adult ... I still see his smile in my memories. I pray that others fill the void of mentorship & friendship he leaves behind, and wish him well, and "THANKS!" as he heads into the next phase of his journey.

Sam was my several times removed cousin, and my son Charles and I found him first at St. Bernard's school, and then just recently again at St. James. Sam and Judy were a joy to know, and inspiration to follow, and Sam was a rare gentleman of true nobility that my son and I were privileged to know, and proud to be family.
