I met Scott Mori when I began studying botany at the New York Botanical Gardens and took his class in Taxonomic Botany. He was an extraordinary teacher. His enthusiasm and passion for botany was truly inspiring. I did darkroom work for him at the Gardens and then worked with him for six months at CEPLAC in Bahia, Brazil. I was forever impressed with Scott´s abilities as a teacher, his tireless enthusiasm for his work, and his extraordinarily admirable work ethic. He had a delightful sense of humor and a joy of life. An unforgettable, dedicated botanist and teacher who left the world the legacy of his vast knowledge of tropical botany. I was truly saddened to hear of his death and extend my sincerest condolences to his family, and to the large community of students, botanists, coworkers and friends who share this loss, and through whom, Scott lives on in memory.
