Along with Barbara, I was keenly aware of your Mom's illness and shared her feelings of sorrow and helplessness. Sheila fought her illness as best she could. She was fortunate to have a wonderful family to assist her.
While I did not know your parents as long as Barbara, my experiences with them over the past four years were always warm and accepting. I quickly came to consider myself a friend, not just a friend of a friend. On visits to their homes, I was always extended a genuine welcome. Our many dinners in New York and elsewhere were always fun. It was all too short a friendship.
In memory of your Mom, Barbara and I are sending a contribution to the Lustgarten Foundation which is working to publicize and support efforts to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. We hope we will soon see progress in fighting this horrendous disease which has robbed so many of us of a loved one.
I know you will find comfort in your memories of Mom and Dad, and I wish that no more sorrows cloud your lives.
We hope to continue our friendship with you just as before and to always remain close with your families.

I'll always remember my Aunt Sheila's generosity in taking me in and giving me a place to stay when I had in internship in Manhattan. I also remember the spiral staircase in her home when I was there for a party celebrating her in-laws' 50th wedding anniversary in November of 1969. I was only 6 at the time, but I still remember it.
