SIDEL WEINSTEIN Obituary

WEINSTEIN--Sidel (Bagner), age 94, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, aunt and sister, passed away at home in Somers, NY, surrounded by her family on July 9, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sidel was the loving daughter of Jack and Rose Bagner and sister to Gertrude. She was the devoted wife of Lionel Weinstein, whom she met on a beach on Nantucket. They shared 64 years of family, work and adventure, until his death in 2020. Sidel attended Brooklyn's Samuel J. Tilden High School and Brooklyn College, where she majored in economics. After earning a teaching degree at Western Connecticut State University, she began a career as an elementary school teacher in Northern Westchester. While teaching and raising a family in Katonah, NY, she also worked alongside her husband at Weinstein's Pharmacy for more than 45 years. She was a longstanding member and past President of the Sisterhood at Temple Bet Torah in Mount Kisco, NY. In 1995, she became a member of Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford Corners, NY, and was a dedicated member of Hadassah, where she served as President of the Tamar Chapter. She readily volunteered for many organizations in service of her community. A refined seamstress, Sidel created clothing, upholstered pieces, drapery, and tableware using intricate stitching and needlepoint. Many family members and friends were the beneficiaries of her artistry. She was a voracious reader and consumer of news. Sidel was gifted with a sharp, analytical mind, a quick wit and a sly but kind sense of humor. She enjoyed the theater, trips to museums and worldwide travel with Lionel, and especially relished spending winters in Palm Desert, where she had a large community of friends built over 30 years. The family extends its unending gratitude to Meldy, Emily, Allesandra, Siobhan and Maria who enriched Sidel's life with joy, laughter, and their devotion. Sidel often said they were the daughters she always wanted. Sidel is survived by her children, Dr. Joseph Weinstein (Christine Corcoran) of Massachusetts, David Weinstein of Manhattan; and grandson Jeffrey Weinstein; all of whom she loved deeply. A funeral service will take place at Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford Corners, New York at 12:30 pm on Monday, July 11, 2022. Masks are required at the service. Charitable donations may be made in Sidel's memory to Hadassah, or Temple Shaaray Tefilah, Attention to the Lionel and Sidel Weinstein Fund.
