Late condolences to the family. As a kid learning to ski in the '60's I was always amazed by his perfect form, which in that era, form was everything. Never quite got that great form but but I sure enjoyed the downhills!

Stein is legendary in our family. Back in the day, my dad located 35mm film of Stein skiing and instructed my brother and I on his legendary reverse shoulder style -frame by frame. Well, to this day, i will be stopped on the slopes in the US and asked where did i learned to ski! Thrilling to say--- Stein's way! His style and name will forever be remembered fondly in our family. Plus, the best thrill was to meet him several times at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley. He was always so pleasant, charming, and happy to chat with us. He even accepted by request to wish my dad Happy 70+ Birthday on my cell phone! My dad was thrilled beyond belief.
My love and condolences to his family. There will never be another Stein. Thank you for his gift of skiing.

One of the most thrilling days of my life was when I showed up at Stein's home at 8 in the morning to pick up some apples that had been accidentally shipped to Stein's house instead of ours.
Stein greeted me at the door and invited me in for coffee, gave me a tour of his then newly remodeled home and he showed me his wall of fame. The photos were a amazing history of his incredibly blessed and exciting life. A truly sweet and wonderful person.
Love and condolences to the whole family and thank you for sharing Stein with us all for so many years.

When I was10 years old I was late for my lesson at Sugarbush Mtn. in Vermont. Stein, the gentleman that he was, offered to take me to my lesson. He did so with some pointers on the way! Later he signed my autograph book. A skiing legend who will be sorely missed!

Stein was an influence on me from the time I began skiing, at age 7. Perhaps because I first skied at Boyne Mountain Michigan, where he was already a skiing legend. By age 15, I was heavily involved in racing and his iconic form, with strong angulation, inside arm driving across the body to set up a counter-rotated upper body, and outside arm cocked and ready for the next pole plant, this is what we strived for as we aggressively attacked the gates. With today's gear, it is a different world, but even as I near age 60, on incredibly responsive equipment, when I think of good form, it is Stein Eriksen that will always immediately come to mind! Everyone who I crossed paths with over a lifetime of skiing, who had met or known him, spoke glowingly of him. Always an inspiration, watching him continue skiing beautifully into his golden years makes me smile. A true legend of the sport, I am sorry he is gone but he will continue to inspire me and countless others, not just on the mountain, but in life.

You accented my life of skiing in the 90's and your competitive son Bjorn inspired so many of us on ski team. We miss you and have fond memories of you. You will be remembered as the best inspiration in Alpine skiing. Heaven is basking in skier glory.

Stein Eriksen will forever hold a unique place in the history of the sport of skiing. His achievements within the world of ski racing were amazing, however, he went further and influenced the birth of freestyle skiing. I was one of those kids who saw a picture of Stein doing a flip and it changed my life. I loved to race, but the lure of Hot Dogging and later Freestyle was strong and I was attracted to the free spirit that Stein and other pioneers infused in the sport. Stein was a precise champion racer, a pioneering Freestyler and a stylish skier like non other. Ski in Peace Stein Eriksen and I will shout your name from the high peaks.

Stein will forever be a legend to me. I personally met him as a young lad in grade school, at Marsac elementary, in Park City Utah. There he revealed himself to us as an Olympic gold medalist, and then offered ski lessons, or ski with Stein day. For those fortunate enough to learn from him as was I will never forget how great he was and how patient he was in showing and teaching his eloquent ski technique to many of us young kids. It was great! I always remember his voice and accent. It was so cool! Ever since then, I've always marveled him as a great man, teacher and mentor to many. His example to all I think has been exemplary! Rest in peace dear Stein Erickson. You may be gone, but will never be forgotten.

There are so many moments remembered that speak volumes about what an amazing human being Stein was. Not only did he have a tremendous impact on skiing as we know it today, but in my mind, he was Julianna's humorous, forgiving, and loving papa. I send so much love to you, and your immediate and extended families. I look forward to seeing you soon. XOXO

When I was in 6th grade I was at my first ski lesson with a group of about 10 other kids and Stein took the time to ski over to us and talk with us for a few minutes before he continued his busy day. I have always admired him for doing that. He will be missed.

Julianna,
Your father was such a gracious man who had the rare gift of making everybody feel comfortable in his presence. My fondest memories of him include playing tennis with him in Phoenix and the toast, with Aquavit, at your wedding reception. The world has lost an icon but his memory will live on in our hearts....God Bless!

Stein was special, not only to his family but friends around the world, especially me! I learned to love him not just for skiing, but for his love of life, family and of friends.
Stein will not die, his legacy will live on in his family, and people like me, who got to really know him. So many great memories.
When I pause and look around, I will be reminded of this poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye, I will know Stein will be close by:
"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die".
~ Mary Elizabeth Frye
God Bless you Stein & God Bless your beautiful Family.

The memories I have of Stein are some of my best ever. Spending the summer with Julianna and the family in Park City was just amazing. The house boat trips and diving off of huge cliffs with Stein in to the crystal blue water, he would do the most amazing swan dive. He will be missed and was loved by so many. RIP Stein, you have left this earth, but never our hearts.

Juliana, your father inspired my mothers's love of skiing in the 50's. She and my dad (both still skiing in their 80's) have been hosting our extended family's ski vacations in Park City and Deer Valley since the 80's. We've enjoyed seeing your dad ski and trying to imitate his style. Its a very fun way to ski! He's now influenced three generations of skiers in our family. Many thanks to him and your family for the joy his influence has brought to our family. It is truly an amazing legacy he has left. Deepest sympathy for your loss.

As a child I grew up with Stein and his daughter Julianna. Lots of memories and days skiing. As he got older and needed to continue to get stronger we loved treating him at my physical therapy clinic, listened to his stories and loved to see him want to get better. He always rose to the occasion and was gracious. I will miss his hugs and kind words even if he was not feeling well.

I grew up in Wisconsin, and Stein Eriksen was my ski idol as young man! I moved to Utah and worked at Deer Valley for 10 years. As the Public Relations Manager I had the honor to schedule Steins ski days with writers,
celebrities and VIP guests! Snow cat skiing, Discovery Channel video, and
many days at Deer Valley I spent skiing with Stein. Getting to know and
spend time with his family and friends
was an absolute joy. These were the best
days during my time at Deer Valley!!
Steins grace and ski style I have always tried to emulate. I am lucky to
have been close enough to Stein for him to allow me to wear his very special Bogner ski gear that is very
precious to me today!! I will miss every opportunity I had to spend with this great man! Stein will always be my
hero!! Sincerely,

I remember being a little dude in ski school and bombing down to silver lake for our hot chocolate break where I accidentally sprayed Stein with a hockey stop. Thought I was going to get yelled at all he said was, "Good stop" in his accent smiling. When I got older I recall his New Years Eve parties and slugging champagne in the S.E. Lodge while he wore the white tux like a boss. RIP Stein. God Bless.
