He attempted to enrich the lives of some many people...and in doing so, did exactly that ! He made an indelible stamp upon society - and made the world just a little bit better - because of his presence. People like this are so beneficial to mankind.

To the Family: My Husband and I would like to express our deepest sympathy for your loss. It is so difficult to lose someone we love. What helped me when I lost my dear father and brother was reflecting on God's word. Isaiah 25:8 says, He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord will certainly wipe the tears from all faces…” During this time, we have the hope of seeing our loved ones again. God's word has brought us comfort during difficult times and we sincerely hope this note will bring a measure of comfort and hope to your family.

Mr Solarz was a good man and a champion for democracy of the Phils and all over the globe. I have donated to that cause for the freedom of the Filipino people during Marcos' Regime and I won't forget Mr Solarz for that good deeds. Thank you sir and May you find peace with the Lord.

I met Mr. Solarz briefly in 1986 at a gathering in the midst of "Filipino town" in Central L.A.
He gave the audience of Filipino-Americans an inspiring speech to never again let the spectre of dictatorship lift its ugly head in the Philippines.

Toppling the Philippine dictator Marcos was just half the work, finding "the shoes that fit...and there were more than 3,000 pairs" was the other. I will never forget those words. Those were exciting times...noble times...from Ayala Avenue to 5th Avenue...it will always be a part of me... Jose Ramon "Joe" A. Pascual (Manila, Philippines)

Can it be nearly 45 years since I clambered up the steps to that second-floor campaign office on Quentin Road and met Steve and Nina? They nearly toppled a 20-term Congressman that summer and changed Brooklyn politics forever.

My heartfelt condolences to Nina and her family.

I always admired Congressman Solarz. He frequented Council Center for Senior Citizens, a large senior center in Brooklyn that a lot of his constituents belonged to when I was the Program Director. I will never forget that he once visited us after a trip to the USSR donning a big fur Russian hat. I was so impressed with the hat that I can only announce, "I don't know who is under that fur hat, but that hat is GORGEOUS."

My condolences and sincere sympathy to his family--Saul Chapnick

My heartfelt condolences to the Solarz family. None of the obituaries I have read mentioned the committed work Congressman Solarz did on behalf of refugees. One of his many acts was to secure funding to fight the pirates from Thailand who were preying on the Vietnames "boat people" -- his efforts on behalf of refugees saved lives and he will be remembered for this among other humanitarian efforts he made.

Dear Nina:

My sincere sympathy to you and the Solarz family. Steve and I had been in touch occasionally in recent years. I will never forget that he was kind enough to sponsor the National lawyer's Guild report on Human Rights violations in Guatemala when we returned from a fact-finding investigation.
My very first experience in the New York Court of Appeals was over the residency challenge when Steve first ran for office. That campaign was proof positive that change was possible by those outside the "system". I have never lost that enthusiasm and shared Steve's goals to make this a better world. My he now rest in peace.

remember you well as a young congressman who did a great deal to raise visibility of issues such as human rights and Africa, as you took great pride in being chair of the Africa subcommittee on Foreign Affairs and it hasn't been the same since. I hope you've found peace.
