Steven Scheidt Obituary

SCHEIDT--Stephen, M.D . The members of The Class of 1965 of Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons mourn the loss of our dear classmate and esteemed colleague, Steven Scheidt. We will remember him best for adding his unique touch to our shared experiences in those wonderful years we studied and learned together. We send our condolences to his family. SCHEIDT--Stephen, M.D. We deeply mourn the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Stephen Scheidt, esteemed cardiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he served the entirety of his distinguished career of nearly 40 years. A brilliant clinician and advocate for medical education internationally, he was the longtime director of the College's cardiology training program, former vice president of the American Heart Association and co-director of the Salzburg-Cornell Seminars for Physicians. A prolific research scientist, his contributions ranged from pioneering early work in the development of coronary care units and the treatment of acute myocardial infarctions to exploring issues such as the link between mood and heart attack, and examining the relationship between cardiovascular disease and nutrition. Known for his quick wit and humor, and his kindness, warmth and generosity of spirit, Dr. Scheidt was greatly beloved by colleagues, students and patients alike. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences are extended to his family. Herbert Pardes, M.D. President and CEO NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Antonio M. Gotto Jr., M.D. Dean Weill Cornell Medical College
