STUART E. BERELSON

1939 - 2024

BERELSON--Stuart E., Esq.,85, of Greenwich, CT, passed away on May 20, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 8, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY. Stu, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and fiercely loyal friend, is survived by his wife Betty Berelson, children Joel Berelson (Charles Maples), Lori Aslan (Stacy Aslan), Wendy Berelson (William Stump), and Meredith Gold, as well as grandchildren CJ, Miles, and Hildy. He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Eleanor Berelson, and beloved sister Joanie Berelson. He graduated from Erasmus HS at the age of 16, Bucknell University in 1959, and NYU School of Law in 1962. In 1967 he also obtained his LL.M. from NYU. Stu was a member of Bucknell's ROTC. He served in the U.S. Army initially as a JAG attorney then as Military Police Officer in Germany for two years. During his successful law career he specialized in Taxation and Estate Planning. He was committed to and represented a wide range of long standing clients in all aspects of commercial and residential real estate, and construction. Stu gave generously to Bucknell University throughout his life serving on the Board of Trustees and was an Emeritus Trustee. He received the Alumni Association's Loyalty to Bucknell Award. Establishing The Berelson Center for Jewish Life at Bucknell in 1993, Stu created a vibrant space for Jewish life on campus. Stu reveled in the joys of sailing and skiing. He was a longtime member of Indian Harbor and New York Yacht clubs, winning many races on the Long Island Sound. He was passionate about skiing at Windham Mountain with his family and friends, was a respected member of the community, and instrumental in its evolution and success.
