STUART HENDEL Obituary
passed away peacefully on Friday October 20, 2018. It is with great sadness that the family of Stu Hendel announces his passing on Friday, October 19th, 2018, at the age of 60 years old. He died peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was known for his dry wit, big heart, and keen intellect. His passions included, but were not limited to his family, sports, romantic comedies, and Broadway. Stu was born on September 2nd, 1958 in New London, Connecticut. He received a BA Magna Cum Laude in Mathematics/Economics from Wesleyan University and a JD with honors from Cornell Law School. He began his career as an attorney with the law firm of Hughes Hubbard & Reed. He moved on to have a varied and storied career over multiple decades in prime brokerage, highlighted by his stints at Morgan Stanley, Eton Park Capital Management, UBS, and Bank of America. Less than two and a half years ago, he was diagnosed with ALS. It was then he turned his passions from banking to fundraising, raising millions of dollars for ALS research. His family would like to thank those who have been by his side during his brief, courageous battle and to the unbelievable doctors and caretakers who helped him through this difficult time. A special thanks to Dr. Neil Schneider, Dr. John Hansen Fleschen, and Nurse Practitioner Regina Youngman. We sadly say goodbye to our hero, Stu. Devoted husband of 28 years to Leslie Rapoport Hendel. Loving father to Michael Lee, Evan Bailey, and Lauren Taylor. Son of Ted Hendel and Muriel Aronson. Big brother to Kenny and Amy Hendel. Adored uncle, brother-in-law, and cousin to many. Your spirit will live on in the lives of those you've touched. Funeral services to be held at 12pm, Sunday, October 21st at Temple Israel Center of White Plains, 280 Old Mamaroneck Rd., White Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Project ALS or MAC Angels in his honor.

Stu was my very first friend in undergrad. I liked him immediately, because he had a great sense of humour and didn't take himself too seriously. We gave each other nicknameshe was Heinberg and I was Feinberg, I suppose picking up on the first letters (phonetically) of our last names, but also poking gentle fun at our heritage. More importantly, he didn't care where I was from, where I went to boarding school (neither of us did) or who I was. He just wanted to laugh and have a good time with me. And when I saw him earlier this year, after several years of not seeing him, and after ALS had sapped him of his strength, he smiled at me and boomed out, Feinberg! I miss you Heinberg.

I have known the Florida Hendels for 25 years and I think of them like family. It was a loving family that helped Stu fight his courageous battle while everyone looked on in agony. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy at your lose and that of all those who knew him. My prayer is that the money he helped raise will get us so much closer to a cure.

I was privileged to spend three years at Cornell Law with Stu. He was a huge part of our class in so many ways. I will always think of his sense of humor, booming laugh, and, of course, his passion for his beloved intramural sports. My deepest condolences to all of his family.

To the Hendel family, so sorry to hear the news. Stu was not only a friendly neighbor but a mentor to me at both Lehman and UBS. A true legend in the financing business with a kind heart and keen intellect. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

I was fortunate to know Stu all the way back to college and also at law school. At our college fraternity, he was known as Henny. Stu coined many a nickname for the rest of us. Stu and fun went together, but now courage and bravery are what I will really remember him for.
My condolences to the entire Hendel family during this sad time.
