SOLOMON--Susan L. The board of directors, staff, researchers and fellows of The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) deeply mourn the loss of our Co-Founder and CEO Susan L. Solomon. A lifelong champion of applying new technologies to intractable problems, Susan passionately believed in the power of stem cells to shift the paradigm of scientific research and modern medicine. Her vision of NYSCF was of a nimble organization that would direct private philanthropy toward cutting edge scientific research, which NYSCF supported in its own laboratory as well as through the work of a network of NYSCF-sup- ported fellows in great research institutions around the world. In the seventeen years since NYSCF was founded, her dream has been realized, and NYSCF has become a powerful catalyst for the entire stem cell field. A lawyer by training and a longtime entrepreneur and business executive, Susan assumed her role as a health-care advocate when one of her sons was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She co-founded NYSCF in 2005, raising over $400 million to support the most advanced stem cell research, construct the NYSCF laboratory on West 54th Street in Manhattan, and oversee research and programs that have already yielded over 20 major clinical breakthroughs. She did this with passion and energy that barely diminished during her five-and-a-half year battle with ovarian cancer, building NYSCF into a true community of scientists working in the public interest. We will be forever grateful for her vision and leadership in transforming the field of stem cell research and accelerating better treatments and cures for patients today and generations to come.The family asks that donations in her memory be made to The New York Stem Cell Foundation - www.nyscf.org
