Dear Sally and Steve,
I learned the terrible news about your son only last night at dinner, when I happened to sit next to a friend of yours, Will O´Boyle, at dinner. As the mother of two sons myself, I am devastated for you. More to come, but In the meantime, all my love and heartfelt thoughts,
Sallie (Waterman) Arens

I´m so sorry for the loss of such an admirable young man. My deepest condolences to Stephen and Sally and the entire Dayton/Clement families. I knew Sally and her mother as fellow trustees of Vassar College and Stephen as head of the Browning School. They raised all their children to be wonderful, giving, caring members of the world. With sympathy, Kathleen Tener Smith

What a shame that Ted had such a short time here with us. He made the absolute most of it! I am sorry for your suffering.

Ted and I joined the Macalester College Board of Trustees in the same year. Ted was a more recent graduate, 2006, while I was a much older graduate (1973). I immediately liked Ted and was immediately impressed by his intellect and his wonderful sense of humor. We took different routes to get to Macalester. However, we connected because of our shared Macalester experience and our desire to make certain that our shared experiences would be enjoyed by other young people for years to come. We wanted to make sure that our education would be accessible to all bright and hard-working students without consideration of their economic station in life.
I will miss seeing Ted at meetings either in person or via video conference. My prayers and sincere condolences go out to Diana, the children and the rest of Ted's family and friends. I know that this is a very hard time for you. I will be praying that you will be comforted by the Holy Spirit and that Ted will now rest in peace as he joins the ancestors.
