THOMAS NICHOLS Obituary

NICHOLS--Thomas

(Timothy) Steele, Jr. on February 25th at home in Jamaica, Vermont. He resided in Annapolis, Maryland. Burial at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born May 11, 1942 in New York City, Tim attended the Buckley School, Phillips Exeter Academy, Yale University and Fordham. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was a lifelong teacher of many disciplines, both in the classroom and on the athletic field. Tim was devoted to The Allen-Stevenson School. He was a highly skilled photographer, flew his own helicopter, loved skiing, accurate weapons, fast cars, was a brilliant linguist who dreamed in Italian and was a world traveler with an insatiable curiosity about life and a matching capacity to absorb knowledge and impart it to those wise enough to listen. Tim will be sorely missed by his many friends and family, who loved him dearly.

Timmy was one of the good guys. Grew up with him in East Hampton. He turned out well in spite of his father. God Bless

Tim
From 5th to 8th grade at Allen-Stevenson, you inspired a lifelong interest in history with your passion for both Goths and Visigoths- and an appreciation for proper grammar; were the most competitive of coaches, literally suiting up on the football field; made me look like ben bradlee as the editor of our newspaper which n as the advisor, you made an award winning publication; and showed me how to properly stage a happy moment, by including me in the celebration of your wedding, horse drawn carriage and all. More than anything, by your example, you taught me the value of pursuing whatever your interest may be with passion and seeking to play at the highest level. Basically, the value of excellence. By far, you made more of an impact on who I became, than any teacher at all of the grrat eduicational institutions I was lucky enough to attend. Thank you .

I will always be indebted to Tim for his photographic instruction immersion one summer in grade school, where he made available to a couple of us his extensive camera gear and darkroom, and his keen eye. A generous and dynamic man.

Tim will be sorely missed by his neighbors on Meadows Road. My sons Nathaniel (17) and Jason (14) and I have wonderful memories of Tim's many visits, singing and telling us of his past. He supported Nat's interest in LAX, and was a truly thoughtful and generous neighbor.

Tim,
You were the neighbor that made us feel at home in Jamaica, Vermont. You were the giving tree so elequently described by Shel Silverstein - and no mere metaphor given the number of trees and paths we cleared. And we'll never forget your gift of butterfly leg of lamb with mint sauce for our neighborly Memorial Day and Labor Day picnics along the West River, not to mention countless other acts of kindness. We thought you worked for the CIA - but in the end, you'll be remembered as our beloved Timmy.

Rest in peace my friend.

I just heard the sad news that Tim had passed away. I first came to know Tim when he auditioned for a part in "Oliver!" with the Dorset Players, and then when he joined the cast of "The Crucible" in 2013. An erudite, gentle man. Godspeed, Tim!

Tim was a wonderful addition to the Dorset Players. I first came to know Tim when he auditioned for "Oliver!" and then later when I had the pleasure of casting him for a role in "The Crucible." An erudite, gentle man. Godspeed, my friend!
